Nature-Based Therapy
healing with nature
Nature-based therapy is the foundation of my work; a form of psychotherapy that takes place in relationship with the natural world. Rather than adding nature onto traditional therapy, I lead with outdoor, experiential care that supports the mind–body connection, nervous system regulation, and sensory awareness — allowing nature to actively support healing and insight.

a living process
With attention to your goals, nervous system, and the environment around us, we work collaboratively as nature offers grounding, metaphor, and feedback in real time — supporting body-based awareness, emotional processing, and integration in ways that often feel more accessible than indoor therapy alone.
Nature-based therapy can help support reduced stress and anxiety; improved mood; greater emotional regulation; enhanced mindfulness; and a deeper sense of connection, clarity, and resilience. Experiencing therapy 'out in the world' is also thought to be supportive of translating the work of therapy into real life.
beyond words
nature-based therapy vs. talk therapy
TRADITIONAL TALK THERAPY
Focuses primarily on conversation, and can be difficult for those who feel stuck or overwhelmed.
NATURE-BASED THERAPY
Still values reflection and dialogue, but also engages the body, senses, and environment.
public health
You and I are nature.
Modern life demands that we spend most of our time indoors, in built environments.

Nurtured by Nature Therapy sees contact with nature as a public health intervention essential for healthy development, much like exercise and nutrition. Expanding evidence demonstrates that time in nature reduces inflammation, improves gut microbiome, and enhances attention. Engagement with nature builds empathy and compassion, helping to understand our problems on a personal and global scale. For this reason, access to nature is a public health necessity.

what does a session look like?
Each session is unique and focused on your goals. Clients often share that outdoor therapy sessions are meaningful and memorable — spontaneous and inspiring encounters with a family of deer, a sea of grasshoppers, a watchful hawk, gentle falling snow, or messages delivered by wind and a feather. Sessions may include walking, sitting, or gentle movement in accessible outdoor spaces. We adapt to weather, energy levels, and comfort, with safety and consent guiding the process. Sessions can also take place in-office or virtually when needed.
isn't this just forest bathing?
Forest bathing is typically a guided wellness or mindfulness practice. Nature-based therapy is psychotherapy led by a licensed therapist, shaped by your unique history, goals, and mental health needs. It offers clinical depth, continuity, and therapeutic relationship alongside nature connection.
